Playground
In 2020 DPR received grants from the National Park and Recreation Association, the North Carolina Recreation and Park Association, and PlayCore to install a new playground. The playground features play equipment for ages 5-12 and includes swings. Access-a-mats were installed under the engineered wood fiber surfacing, which offers an accessible surface for wheelchairs and strollers.
Public Art
Artist: Wade Williams
In February 2021, a mural, "Sunshine Over Africa," was completed at Lakeview Park. This ground-plane mural is comprised of four vibrantly colored artwork elements including an Afrocentric Pattern of a Sunrise, Map of Africa, American Hopscotch, and English Hopscotch. The City's Pre-Qualified Artist Registry was used to identify artists for this project. The artist, Wade Williams, is a Durham resident and was selected by a panel that included residents from the Braggtown community. Williams installed the mural at Lakeview Park after gathering community feedback through an engagement survey. This mural was made possible in partnership with Keep Durham Beautiful and a grant from Bank of America and the Arbor Day Foundation.
