About the Spruce Pine LodgeThe Spruce Pine Lodge is a 1940s vintage log building located in the Lake Michie Recreation Area. The lodge has 2,500 square feet of floor space which is divided into 4 meeting rooms, all served by a kitchen facility. Log walls and massive stone fireplaces lend a unique quality to all types of functions.
Hiking trails, a large lawn, play field, and picnic shelter are also available for use, as well as Lake Michie’s camping, boating and fishing facilities nearby. The lodge is 12 miles north of downtown Durham (near Bahama) and easily accessible from Interstate 85.
The building, associated lawns and picnic shelter are available to rent for weddings, large picnics, meetings, retreats, parties or other group activities.
2021 RentalsWe are reopening our special use facilities in accordance with the current mandates and restrictions in place in North Carolina. Those interested in booking the Durham Armory, Spruce Pine Lodge, or the Forest Hills Neighborhood Clubhouse for an event in 2021 can submit a request using the Special Use Facility Rental Request Form beginning Monday, April 26, 2021, at 8 a.m.
All requests will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. A member of the reservations team will contact you to confirm the booking details. Once the reservation is made you will have 10 days to pay the security deposit and application fee.
Any booking where payment is not made by the end of the 10 days will be removed and the date will reopen for others to reserve.

Due to COVID-19, all rentals are required to comply with local and state restrictions including indoor mass gathering size.

All reservations must be made at least 45 days in advance.
ToursTours are provided every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. No appointment necessary.

Alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited except when permits to serve such beverages are obtained from Durham Parks and Recreation and/or the State ABC Board. Permits can be found at ABC Commission North Carolina website.
Events in which alcohol will be served are required to hire event security through the Durham Police Department. Renters are responsible for contacting the Durham Police Department to obtain information and to schedule officers for their event. Payment is due in cash, to the officer(s) at the beginning of the event. Renters should contact Officer Jason Evans 336-601-0295 to arrange security.
A certificate of liability insurance must be provided to Durham Parks and Recreation no later than 15 days prior to event. The insurance must show general liability insurance with an alcohol/liquor rider for at least $1,000,000, naming the City of Durham as an additional insured. The certificate of insurance must have an original signature covering the date of your event. Insurance can be obtained from any insurance company (Ex. WedSafe, Travelers Insurance, State Farm, etc.).
