Sandy Creek Park is an important natural resource park within the City’s system, part of the New Hope Corridor and home to a wetlands restoration project. But it also has some interesting potential as a locally important historic site for urban and industrial development. The 102 acres that now comprise the park were purchased in the 1920s, and made into a sewage treatment plant. Although today those buildings have been decommissioned or removed, it still has some buildings ready for purposed use.The site was closed as a wastewater treatment facility in the early 1960s, and the site was abandoned. As a part of the conversion of this site into a park facility in the 1990s, the open structures and the piping were removed, but several of the sturdy old concrete buildings were retained for possible future uses—and ideas for those uses have been many
