Vegetation Management Work during October

The City of Durham has contracted with River Works, Inc. to manage invasive vegetation within the conservation easements along stream restoration projects in Durham. This work is required in order to maintain the health and water quality benefits of the conservation easement. Invasive plants can be detrimental to these areas and degrades their ability to function properly. The contractor uses aquatic safe herbicides which are designed to quickly degrade upon contact with water.

Vegetation management work will take place at the following parks during the month of October:

  • Forest Hills Park
  • Long Meadow Park
  • Indian Trail Park
  • Westover Park / West Ellerbee Creek Trail
  • Northgate Park

Facility use at these locations is not expected to be impacted, as most of the work is limited to wooded areas along the stream bank. All work is weather dependent, but will occur on weekdays during daytime hours.
