Outdoor Recreation

Durham Parks and Recreation’s (DPR) Outdoor Recreation unit offers outdoor recreation and environmental education programs for all ages. From kayaking programs to nature hikes, cave exploration to lunar exploration, and moonlight geo paddles to overnight camping experiences, we have a multitude of opportunities for you and your friends and family to enjoy the outdoors together. The majority of our programs do not require prior experience and equipment is generally provided

City Lakes

The Outdoor Recreation unit manages Lake Michie and Little River Lake in northern Durham County.

Ropes Courses

DPR offers both a low and high ropes course for groups seeking team building or high adventure! 

Homeschool / Youth Group Requested Programs

The Outdoor Recreation Unit will tailor a program to meet your needs, whether it’s an environmental education program to meet a home school science requirement or a paddle program for a badge.

For camps looking for field trips that offer the outdoor experience, we offer sailing and paddling programs, low and high ropes course programs, map and compass courses and much more.
